Women’s Soccer (1-2-1) (0-0-0)

Aug. 29 @ Seton Hall

L, 1-0

Seton Hall led in shots (19-11), corners taken (6-1) and fouls (5 to 12). The goalies, junior Maggie Pohl and freshman Natalie Neumann, split duties between the pipes. Pohl stopped one shot on goal and Neumann recorded seven saves, despite giving up the game-winner in the 81st minute. 

Sept. 1 @ Hartford

T, 0-0 (2 OT)

The Leopards outshot the Hawks 15-8, but no one found the back of the net. Pohl and Neumann split halves again, with Neumann playing both overtime periods, and combined for four saves.

Volleyball (0-3) (0-0)

Aug. 30 @ University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC Tournament)

L, 3-1 

Sophomore outside hitter Leanna Deegan led the team with 12 kills, and outside hitters sophomore Grace Tulevech and freshman Ellie Carrera-Justiz both contributed 10 kills. The Leopards stayed alive by winning the third set, but fell in the fourth. 

Aug. 30 vs. Temple (UMBC Tournament)

L, 3-0

Deegan and Carrera-Justiz recorded eight kills each, but Temple outscored Lafayette in straight sets to take the win. 

Aug. 31 vs. Fairview University

L, 3-2

Fairview earned a close win over the Leopards after the game was tied 19 times in the second and third sets. Deegan and Carrera-Justiz both scored late to keep the Leopards close, but Fairview claimed the final set and the victory. 

Field Hockey (1-1) (0-0) 

Aug. 30 vs. Virginia Commonwealth University

W, 2-1 

The field hockey team started the season at home with a win against VCU. Senior forward Sam Di Maio scored first 35 minutes in, and freshman forward Felicitas Hannes scored after a rebound in the 50th minute. Senior goalie Sarah Park also had six saves to hold on for the win. 

Sept. 1 @ (#18) Syracuse

L, 3-2 (2 OT)

Midfielders senior Caroline Turnbull and junior Audrey Sawers scored in the first quarter, and the Leopards held the 2-0 lead at the half. Syracuse came back to tie the game and force an overtime, and later ended the game with a score in the second extra period.

Men’s Soccer (2-0) (0-0) 

Aug. 30 vs. Siena College 

W, 4-0

The team won their season opener for the first time since 2014 with four different Leopards finding the back of the net. Freshman midfielder Yiannis Panayides scored in the 13th minute off of an assist from freshman forward Hale Lombard. Sophomore forward Marcos Kitromilides later scored from senior forward Dylan Royalty’s cross. In the second half, Lombard scored the third and sophomore midfielder Sebastian Varela scored the final goal.

Sept. 3 vs. Fairleigh Dickinson

W, 1-0

Junior defender Andrew Venezia assisted senior defender Christian Williams on the game’s only goal in the 40th minute. Sophomore goalie Alex Sutton recorded his second shutout in as many games with five saves.

Cross Country

Aug. 30 @ Towson University Invitational

Men, W, (team score 22). Women, W, (team score 45). 

Both the men’s and women’s teams took home first place at the Towson Invitational. On the men’s side, sophomore Brian Clayton finished in second place out of 33 runners. Junior Ryan Branch, freshman Robert Oehrlein, and junior Michael Neeson finished third to fifth, while junior Thomas Anthony finished eighth. On the women’s side, sophomore Autumn Sands finished fifth out of 57 runners, freshman Rachel Hurley finished seventh in her collegiate debut, and junior Gabrielle Galletta and classmate Ainsley Jacobs finished 9th and 10th respectively. Freshman Dannah Javens earned 14th place.

Football (0-1) (0-0) 

Aug. 31 @ William & Mary

L, 30-17 

Junior Cole Northrup made his first collegiate start as quarterback and finished with a rushing touchdown, while freshman quarterback Keegan Shoemaker came off the bench and threw a touchdown and one interception. On the defensive end, sophomore defensive lineman Malik Hamm finished with nine tackles and junior linebacker Major Jordan finished with 12.
