Men’s lacrosse (4-10) (0-7)
April 20 @ Colgate University
L, 16-7
Freshman midfielder Cole Dutton scored a hat trick in a matchup that got away from the Leopards after a Colgate run before halftime. After cutting their deficit to just two scores, Colgate netted three goals to close out the second quarter. The Leopards outshot the Raiders 37-36, while sophomore goalie Jake Floyd-Jones made 13 saves. Senior attacker Conor Walters registered three points on the afternoon with a pair of goals and an assist.
Women’s Lacrosse (5-11) (1-7)
April 20 @ United States Naval Academy
L, 21-5
After senior midfielder Hannah Davey responded with a goal to cut Navy’s lead in half to begin the game, the Midshipmen rattled off 13 consecutive goals to end the first quarter. The 15-1 deficit was too much for the Leopards to overcome, as Navy led in nearly every statistical category. Lafayette’s five goals came from five different scorers, while sophomore Quinn Lacy and junior Taylor Danson combined for 14 saves.
Softball (8-32-1) (1-11)
April 20, 21 vs. Boston University
L, 14-1; L, 7-0; L, 4-0
The Leopards were no match for the Terriers, who are atop the Patriot League, in the three-game series. After scoring three runs in the first inning of game one, BU did not look back. Lafayette’s only run of the series came off a single by senior first baseman Maddie Wensel, scoring sophomore outfielder Paige Grover who reached on a double. Lafayette’s four seniors were honored with a pre-game ceremony on Saturday with their families in their final home conference series of the regular season.
April 24 @ Fairleigh Dickinson University
W, 3-2; L, 4-2
The Leopards split a Wednesday doubleheader behind freshman outfielder Erin Scott’s two-out single in the ninth inning of game one, which gave Lafayette the lead for good. Scott had two hits in the game, while senior pitcher Stacy Gordon threw a complete-game with nine strikeouts, allowing two earned runs.
In the second game, Scott continued her hot hitting with an RBI double to give the Leopards the lead in the first inning. Freshman infielder Natasha Miner went 3-4 with three singles, including one to trim the deficit to two runs in the seventh inning. Freshman pitcher Kinzi Van Wyk threw six innings, allowing four runs, three earned and scattering six hits with a pair of walks.
Baseball (14-25) (8-9)
April 21, 22 @ College of the Holy Cross
W, 9-6; L, 10-5; L, 5-1
The Leopards won game one of the Sunday doubleheader behind three hits apiece from freshman catcher Dylan Minghini, senior third baseman Spencer Rouse, and freshman shortstop Justin Johnson. A five-run sixth inning turned a 5-4 deficit into a 9-5 lead that Lafayette would not relinquish.
In the second game, sophomore infielder Ethan Stern and Durrah tallied two hits each but the Leopards’ pitchers had trouble figuring out the Crusader lineup, as each of the first three hurlers for Lafayette allowed multiple runs in the loss.
Leckie hit a solo home run to left field to provide the only offense on the afternoon for Lafayette. The Leopards managed just four hits but received scoreless performances from sophomores Mike Dunn and Tyler Faccenda out of the bullpen to keep the score close.
April 23 @ Delaware (Liberty Bell Classic)
W, 7-5
The Leopards repeated as Liberty Bell Classic champions courtesy of a five-run eighth inning where the team turned a 2-2 tie into a 7-2 lead, punctuated by senior center fielder Dan Leckie’s two-out, two-run homer to left. Freshman pitcher Frank Craska earned the win despite allowing three runs during his 1.2 innings of work.
April 24 @ Penn State University
L, 3-2
Senior infielder Richard Villa and junior outfielder Trey Durrah tallied three hits apiece to pace the offense, but the Leopards ultimately lost the pitchers’ duel. Lafayette outshot the Nittany Lions 11-5 but left 10 runners on base. Freshman pitcher Ethan O’Connor had a quality start, throwing five innings and allowing just three hits and two earned runs while striking out two.
Women’s tennis (8-10) (1-6)
April 22 vs. East Stroudsburg University
W, 7-0
Seniors Anavi Anand and Haley Matthes won their doubles match 6-4 on Senior Day to help the Leopards catch the doubles team point. Lafayette swept all six singles and all three doubles matches with junior Grace Conrad, sophomore Samantha Snyder, and freshman Maureen McCormack all winning twice.
April 23 vs. Lehigh University
L, 7-0
Juniors Meredith Block and Conrad won their match at No. 3 doubles, but the Mountain Hawks swept the remainder of the doubles and singles matches.
Golf
April 20 @ Navy Spring Invitational
The Leopards won the team title after sitting in second place during the first day of the two-round event. Freshman Ryan Tall tied for third place with a 145, while sophomore Cole Berger finished just behind him with a 147. Sophomore Brendan Cronin shot a 149 to round out the top-15 scorers for Lafayette, ending in a three-way tie.
April 23 @ Lehigh
A small Leopards contingent travelled to Bethlehem for the final tuneup before the Patriot League Championship. Tall shot a 78, the best round of the day for the team, and was joined by senior Patrick McGinley, sophomores Creighton Hendrix and Alec Cwienkala, and freshman TJ Repczynski.
Track and Field
April 21 @ Greyhound Invitational, Larry Ellis Invitational
Freshman Timothy Payne finished first in the 110-meter hurdles and earned the eighth fastest finish in school history in the 400-meter hurdles. Sophomore Jermaine Rhoden won the high jump, notching a top mark of 2.00 meters, good for the eighth highest jump in Lafayette school history. The Leopards also won the men’s 4×100 meter relay, while the women saw individual success. Senior Emily Moore won the 3000-meter steeple and sophomore Olivia Barney placed first in the discus competition.
