Baseball (11-19) (6-4)

April 10 vs. Rutgers University

L, 9-3

The Leopards were outhit just 10-8, but scored six fewer runs than Rutgers in the loss. Senior first baseman Richard Villa accounted for two hits and an RBI.

April 6, 7 vs. Bucknell University

W, 11-3; W, 6-5; W, 10-5

The Leopards earned their first sweep of the season, defeating conference foe Bucknell in a three-game set. In the first game, sophomore pitcher JP Woodward threw a complete game, scattering four hits and just one earned run while recording eight strikeouts and walking three.

The Leopards trailed 5-2 in the second game before a two-run homer by sophomore infielder Ethan Stern brought the team within one. After Lafayette tied the game in the seventh inning on an error, sophomore outfielder Colin Hartey hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the ninth to bring in the winning run.

In the third game, junior pitcher Brett Kreyer tossed a complete game, allowing just one earned run over nine innings while striking out three. Sophomore catcher Hunter Silvernail went 3-4 on the afternoon, recording an RBI and scoring twice.

 

Golf

April 8, 9 @ Wildcat Invitational

Five Leopards traveled to Malvern, Pa., for the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Villanova, as the team finished in fifth place. Junior Will Halamandaris had the best performance, finishing with a four-under 144 and tying for third overall. Following Halamandaris was freshman Ryan Tall and sophomore Brendan Cronin, who tied for 25th overall with identical scores of 143.

 

Men’s lacrosse (4-8) (0-5)

April 6 vs. Holy Cross

L, 16-4

The Leopards couldn’t keep up with the Crusaders, trailing 6-1 after the first quarter. The team’s four goals were evenly scattered among each quarter. Sophomore midfielder Bryan Hess scored two goals to pace the offense, while junior attacker Robbie Garavente and sophomore midfielder Andrew Robbins notched a goal apiece.

 

Women’s lacrosse (5-8) (1-4)

April 6 @ Army West Point

L, 16-14

Senior attacker Jane Kirby joined classmate Emma Novick as the second Leopard to score their 150th career goal this season after scoring four goals in the game against Army. Novick and fellow senior midfielder Hannah Davey both tallied hat tricks in the loss.

 

Softball (4-27-1) (1-8)

April 10 vs. Villanova University

L, 3-0

Senior shortstop Brooke Wensel went 2-3 on the afternoon, notching half of the team’s hits. Senior pitcher Stacy Gordon threw five scoreless innings, allowing an unearned run and scattering three hits while striking out five.

April 6, 7 @ Bucknell

L, 8-0; L, 9-1; L, 2-0

In the first game of the series, senior catcher Maddie Wensel, freshman infielder Natasha Miner, and junior infielder Addison Goldwait accounted for the only three hits on the afternoon as the offense stalled.

In the second game, the offense remained quiet with Miner tallying the only hit on the Lafayette side. The one run from the Leopards came in the fourth inning off a bunt from Wensel, bringing Miner home from third base.

In the third game, Gordon tossed six innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out three. Wensel recorded the lone Leopards hit on the afternoon.

 

Men’s tennis (4-10) (1-5)

April 6 vs. Niagara University

W, 6-1

The doubles duos of sophomore Brandt Baldwin and freshman William Barry and sophomores John Yurconic and Daniel Kramer both won their matches to earn the team point. The team also won five of their six singles matches.

April 7 @ University of Delaware

L, 5-2

Kramer and Yurconic won their doubles match, and Kramer was victorious in his singles match as well. Freshman Ross Coleman won his singles match to earn another point for the Leopards.

April 9 vs. Bucknell

L, 4-1

At No. 2 singles, Yurconic won the lone singles match for the Leopards on the afternoon with a score of 6-4, 6-2.

 

Women’s tennis (6-9) (1-5) 

April 6 vs. Niagara

L, 4-3

The Leopards took on the Purple Eagles at home, but finished the day with a one-point deficit to add to their five-match losing streak. Juniors Meredith Block and Katie Hill recorded victories in their respective singles matches. Freshman Maureen McCormack won both her doubles and singles match, teaming up with sophomore Samantha Snyder for a 6-0 shutout.

 

Track and Field

April 6 vs. Lehigh

The men took home the Bryan Mundy trophy after a 107-96 victory against rival Lehigh. The women fell to the Mountain Hawks by 48 points, losing 125-77. Senior Colleen Cass and sophomore Brian Kaufman both earned Field Athletes of the Meet, while seniors Amy Hewlett and Tom Strand both received Track Athlete of the Meet.
