Men’s Golf

Oct. 19, 20 Hosted by Lehigh @ Saucon Valley CC

As a team, men’s golf placed 11th of 13 schools. Lafayette was led by Cole Berger, tied for second, and Brendan Cronin, tied for 16th. They shot 147 and 152, respectively.

Women’s Volleyball (5-17) (0-10)

Oct.19 @ Loyola

L, 3-0

The set scores for the match were 25-14, 25-13 and 25-17, all in favor of the Greyhounds. The offense was led by freshman outside hitter Grace Tulevech with seven kills, and freshman middle blockers Kelly Austin and Madi Wahrmund each finished with four. The third set showed promise when the Leopards tied the match at 16-16, forcing a Loyola timeout. The Greyhounds only allowed one point for the Leopards after the recess.

Oct. 20 @ American

L, 3-0

The volleyball team came up short in their second match of the weekend, losing in straight sets to American University, 25-8, 25-12, 25-18. The team fought hard through all three sets, their third being the most favorable. Freshman outside hitter Leanna Deegan had a team-high with 10 kills, while Tulevech recorded three and Austin added a pair. Julia Howard recorded five digs.

Football (2-5) (1-2)

Oct. 20 @ Bucknell

W, 29-27

The Leopards earned their first conference win of the season against Bucknell. After being down 14-7 at the half, Lafayette fought back in the third quarter on a 13 yard run by Mike Dunn which tied the score at 14. Bucknell then returned with another touched down, then leading 21-14. On the Leopards’ next drive, Julian Spigner completed a 45-yard pass to freshman wide receiver Zadok Scott to get the ball to the two yard line. Sophomore quarterback Sean O’Malley finished the drive with a five-yard run to pull the Leopards within one, down 21-20. Throughout the rest of the game, the Lafayette defense make big plays for the team which helped secure the 29-27 win. The deciding score was a 33-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Jeffrey Kordenbrock to put the team up 29-21.

Field Hockey (8-9) (4-1) 

Oct. 20 vs. American

W, 3-1

Field Hockey clinched a spot in the upcoming Patriot League tournament with a convincing 3-1 win over American University. Freshman forward Molly McAndrew tallied two of the three goals for the Leopards, while senior captain Theresa Delahanty scored one goal and also recorded an assist. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Park had six saves on the afternoon, and was helped by strong defense from senior co-captain Rachel Bird.

Oct. 22 @ Cornell

W, 2-1

The Leopards won a thriller against Cornell, outlasting the Big Red in double overtime. Junior forward Sam Di Maio buried the game-winner with 52 seconds left in the second extra period. Despite conceding an early goal, Lafayette found the equalizer in the 54th minute on a strike by Bird. A win on Oct. 27 against Bucknell would secure field hockey as the number two seed in the Patriot League Tournament.

Swim & Dive

Oct. 20 @ Loyola

The men’s and women’s swim and diving teams lost to Loyola in their second meet of the season. The men lost by a score of 157-110, while the women lost 179-106. The men won their 400-yard medley relay, and both the men and women won their 200-yard freestyle relay. On the men’s individual side, freshman Taylor Duque Schumacher won the 200-meter freestyle (1:47.72), freshman Justin Lloyd won the 500-yard freestyle (4:45.83), and sophomore Tanner McFarland, and freshmen Kyle Goodwill and Naoki Nomura also won their respective races. For the women, junior Emily Benson won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:38.47) and was accompanied by freshmen Lauren Lapsley and Tara Leininger, junior Brinton Coombs, and senior Faye Melekos who all won their respective races.

Women’s Tennis

Oct. 20 vs. University of California Irvine

L, 6-1

The Leopards suffered a tough setback to Cal Irvine in their last match of their fall schedule, losing the contest 6-1. The women dropped five of six singles matches, with the lone singles win coming from junior Grace Conrad. Sophomores Cecelia Lesnick and Samantha Snyder paired for a doubles win.

Men’s Soccer (5-7-3) (1-4-2)

Oct. 20 @ Colgate

L, 2-0

The Leopards’ couldn’t get anything going on offense, as they fell to defending Patriot League champion Colgate. Lafayette recorded only four shots with none of them on goal and had only one corner kick to the Raiders’ six. The Leopards also committed 14 fouls to Colgate’s 10. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Sutton had a number of key saves, finishing with six stops. Despite the strong effort in goal from Sutton, Colgate managed to score midway through each half to put the game out of reach.

Oct. 24 vs. Navy

L, 2-0

The Leopards’ men’s soccer team maintained a scoreless tie for 78 minutes of the game before ultimately giving up two goals to American University in a 2-0 loss. Juniors Martin Ssessanga and Christian Williams had close misses, as Lafayette was outshot 12-5 and failed to record a shot on goal. Sutton recorded four saves on the evening, and played the entire 90-minute game in net.

Women’s Soccer (5-6-3) (1-3-2)

Oct. 21 @ American

L, 2-0

The women’s soccer team kept the game scoreless in the first half before conceding two scores in the second half. The Leopards managed four total shots and just two on goal, as senior forward Alex Stanford and sophomore forward Krista Kissell tallied the lone shots on cage. Lafayette sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Pohl had four saves on the day. Lafayette wraps up its season with an afternoon tilt against Loyola on senior day tomorrow.
