Retired school teachers Bernadette and Swain Fennimore embarked on a culinary journey with partner Frank Jerasa this past May when they opened Common Space on Northampton St. A production kitchen and events venue that allows catering businesses to lease its kitchen, Common Space allows these caterers to sell their food products in the store front.

Beginning in October, Jerasa said Common Space will host open tabletop gaming nights every Wednesday and open mic nights on Thursdays. While these events will require a $5 cover charge, no experience is required to participate. According to Jerasa, the venue recently hosted a drag queen show which had a lot of reception.

Common Space will host a murder mystery night on Nov. 20th, Jerasa said. Those interested in attending events held at Common Space are encouraged to get tickets online.

Common Space is a space that is open for all ages, Jerasa said. It is a place where there is no pressure to drink and kids can simply have fun. However, Common Space has a “BYOB” policy for those over 21, as long as they order from the establishment, Jerasa added.

“We pride ourselves on being a common space where everyone is welcome and where people come to respect others and to be respected,” Jerasa said.

Common Space is beginning to see a pick up in customers as more caterers utilize the kitchen, she said. The kitchen hosts a variety of caterers from bakers, who use the space to bake and sell cakes, to a BBQ company who use the kitchen to smoke meat.

Where some vendors may lease the kitchen for one big event, others lease time and space every month, according to Jerasa. The event space, which can seat around 60 people and allow for 75-80 standing, can be utilized for parties, weddings, baby showers and other private events.

According to Jerasa, the business partners are eager to get involved in Easton Out Loud, which occurs on the fourth Friday of every month.
