Paper Playlist: Songs that go through puberty

Paper+Playlist%3A+Songs+that+go+through+puberty

SONGS THAT WENT THROUGH PUBERTY.

This week, our playlist focuses on those songs that you listen to, and halfway through, you ask yourself if it’s the same song. Most of the songs on our playlist have unassuming beginnings – a little creepy, a little haunting – but soon build into rocking masterpieces.

Emma: This week, I’m going with “Little Black Submarines” by the Black Keys. I remember when I first heard this song, it absolutely blew my mind. When it’s soft and haunting chords and lyrics give way to a screaming electric guitar, you can feel the hairs on your arms stand up. 10/10 would recommend putting your headphones in and blasting it.

Shelby: My pick this week is “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance. My Chemical Romance does a great job building the intensity of this song by gradually increasing the tempo. At its climax, the song explodes with an anticipated change of pace the listener has been waiting for. The energy of Gerard Way’s voice accompanied by the dramatic entrance of guitars sets the mood for the rest of the song.
