A survivor’s guide to cafe menus that will be sure to keep you awake

‘Tis the season of long library hours, grey hairs, and minimal sleep. With finals upon us, there is no time to waste reading the menu at a cafe, so here is a survivor’s guide to a few caffeine resources keep you fueled up this coming week.

Coffee. Without a doubt, coffee goes hand in hand with all situations and times of day. Coffee is there for us when we want it, when we need it and when it ultimately becomes our last resort. Luckily for Lafayette students, we have the privilege to choose between numerous great coffee finds.

For the afternoons you crave a quiet study date with a cup of cool and uplifting java, you’re destined to meet your match at Cosmic Cup. Cosmic offers a wide variety of iced coffee flavors, the iced vanilla latte with soymilk being a personal favorite. If you need an extra boost, drink up with the quirky Pocket Rocket—iced coffee with a shot of espresso.

If you’ve permanently moved into the library, Skillman Cafe will provide the love and comfort you left behind along with your sleep. While Skillman’s proudly brewed Starbucks goodness is a blessing, the prices for some of its goodies are truly a curse. Here’s what you do: instead of ordering a latte, ask for a simple iced coffee with a flavor of your choice, adding milk or soymilk yourself. Soymilk makes the drink sweeter and thicker like a latte.

You know you need coffee when you see the sun rise across the Quad. For the morning after you pulled an all-nighter, sip on a caramel macchiato, Americano or frappuccino. The latter, with just the right amount of caffeine and sugar serves as a treat and energy booster all at once.

And let us not forget about the holy land… I mean, Wawa. While the pilgrimage to this Mecca of goodness is a bit of stretch from the library, it is, nonetheless, well worth the trip. Wawa’s coffee options present students with the opportunity to mix and match the different drinks as well as create your own. And the coffee is cheaper here, so you can even add a snack. The biggest lure for Wawa is that it is the only place with coffee available 24/7 for those all-nighters.

Lastly, for those of us who do not have a knack for the addictive flavor of coffee, College Hill offers several options to boost your energy level this finals season. Cosmic Cup offers the Pinhead Gunpowder, a highly caffeinated green tea while next door, Mojo Hill serves up a selection of smoothies and juices. A few suggestions include the Jumping Monkey, a peanut butter, banana, cocoa, almond milk and cinnamon concoction and the Power Orange, an apple, carrot, orange and ginger juice.

Regardless of your preferences and tastes, hours and study habits, you may rest assured that the one drink for you is definitely out there, all you have to do is find it.
