Sports Recap Central: 4/24/2015

Baseball (10-19-1, 8-8)

April 18 – Lafayette at Bucknell (Double header)

W, 4-2; L, 3-1

In the first outing, starting pitcher sophomore Dave Bednar pitched a complete game to earn his second win of the season. He allowed five hits and threw seven strikeouts. Sophomore Alex Woinski and junior Campbell Lipe each went two for three from the plate. In the second game, freshman John Cain allowed three hits and one earned run in five innings on the mound. Freshman Steven Cohen had two hits and drove in the only run.

April 19 – Lafayette at Bucknell (Double header)

W, 3-2; W, 7-4

Senior pitcher Toby Schwartz went seven innings strong in the third game of the series, allowing three hits on the day. Freshman Steven Cohen had two hits and an RBI for a second straight game. In the last game of the series, sophomore Alex Woinski went yard in the eighth inning for the Leopards, bringing three runs home.

Golf

April 18-20 – Finegan Invitational hosted by LaSalle from Stonewall Country Club

First Place of 12 teams

The Lafayette golf team took home their first tournament title since 2010. Freshman Art Griffin placed first on the leaderboard after firing back-to-back rounds of 68. Sophomore Jared Mactas finished in a tie for fourth after shooting scores of 71 and 72. Senior Mike Zausmer finished tied for ninth with rounds of 77 and 68.

 

Men’s Lacrosse (4-10, 1-7)

April 17 – Lafayette at Lehigh

L, 11-10

Lehigh netted a goal with 1:27 left in the game to hand the Leopards their second straight loss by one goal. Four different players scored two goals—junior Rob Orazietti, sophomores Jason Sands, Kevin Lewis and Eric Joseph. Jason Sands also added two assists.

Softball (3-31, 1-14)

April 18 – Lafayette vs. Boston University (Double header)

L, 12-2; L, 3-2

In the first game, the Lady Leopards were outhit just 12-9, but were unable to bring runners home. Senior Kelly Lallis, junior Bryn Gornick and freshman Jenna Didio each had two hits in the game. In the second outing, sophomore Lindsey Cherry went seven innings strong on the mound, allowing just four hits. Freshman Rebecca Dvorak went two for four from the plate.

April 19 – Lafayette vs. Boston University

L, 10-2 (6)

Sophomore Lindsey Cherry allowed six hits and four earned runs in just three innings on the mound. Freshmen Jenna Didio and Miranda Skurla, and sophomore Kristyn Marinelli each had two hits on the day.

Women’s Lacrosse (4-13, 2-6)

April 18 – Lafayette at Iona

L, 13-12 (OT)

Down 4-7 at halftime, Lafayette tied the game at 11 to send it into overtime. Sophomores Maggie Carver and Kristen Wilhelmsen had five and two goals on the day. Senior Sarah Malone also had two goals.
