Sports Recap Central: 11/07/2014

Football (3-6, 1-3) 
November 1 – Lafayette vs. Bucknell
L, 27-24 OT

The Leopards lost their third straight, last weekend, in an overtime heartbreaker at Bucknell. Stand out running back Ross Scheuerman found the end zone three times bringing his career total to 28 rushing touchdowns, good enough for fifth place in program history. Sophomore receiver Tim Vangelas also had himself a day, reeling in 10 passes for 75 yards. Lafayette’s consistent offense wasn’t able to seal the deal, however, as an overtime turnover on downs set up Bucknell’s 33-yard game winning field goal.

Men’s Soccer (5-10-2, 1-7-0)

October 29 – Lafayette vs. Bucknell
L, 2-0

Lafayette was outshot 15-9 in a 2-0 shutout at Bucknell. Eric West and Ryan Egan had three shots apiece but the Leopards were unable to get past the goaltending of the Bison’s Clarke Fox who recorded saves on all three shots that Lafayette put on net.

November 1 – Lafayette vs. Army
L, 1-0
Army’s 31st minute goal proved to be all that was needed in for a win as Lafayette fell 1-0 at West Point. Despite matching Army’s total of 12 shots, the Leopards were unable to find the back of the net in their second to last Patriot League match of the season.

Volleyball (5-20, 2-11)

October 31 – Lafayette vs. American
L, 3-0
The Leopards were blanked at home last Friday, falling 3-0 to league leading American University. Lafayette’s early first set lead gave way to 25-20 loss followed by 25-15 and 25-11 losses in the second and third.

November 1 – Lafayette vs. Loyola
W, 3-0

Samantha Volk led the Leopards to a sweep at home with five kills and 23 assists on the day. Despite trailing for much of the third set until Volk’s late service ace propelled the home team to a 25-23 victory.

Women’s Soccer (5-11-1, 2-6-1)

November 1 – Lafayette vs. Loyola
T, 0-0 (2OT)

110 minutes of play couldn’t decide this one as neither team was able to find the back of the net in Lafayette’s final game of the season. Despite being outshot 15-10, the Leopards played strong defense, not allowing a shot for 39:51 minutes of play in the second half.

Cross Country

November 1 – Patriot League Cross Country Championships

Lafayette placed 9th out of 10 in the Patriot League Championships last weekend. Senior Andrew Warshauer led the men’s team, placing 42nd overall while Stephanie Benko represented the women with a 22:07 time, taking home 35th place.

Women’s Basketball (0-0, 0-0)

November 5 – Lafayette vs. Bloomsburg

The Leopards opened their pre-season with a dominant 65-49 win over Bloomsburg. Lafayette was hot from behind the arc, knocking down nine three-pointers. Key scoring contributions also came Jamie O’Hare who led the team with 15 points and Emily Homan who earned a double-double, scoring 14 points and hit the glass hard with 11 rebounds.
