Haven module deadline extended

Some students failed to complete Haven by original deadline

All students are expected to complete the module concerning sexual violence education.

The deadline for students to complete a learning module on understanding sexual assault was extended this week to a later date in order to accommodate the students who have not yet finished it.

The due date for completion of “Haven: Understanding Sexual Assault” was extended this week from September 21 to September 28. Completion of the module is expected for all members of the student body and was sent out in email to students in mid-July. Incompletion of the module will prevent students from registering for classes in the spring semester.

The module takes about one hour to complete, and, according to the email sent by Kelly in the summer, “focuses on understanding definitions and consent, recognizing when you or a friend might be in an unhealthy relationship or situation, and how to make mature decisions in regard to sex and relationships.”

Vice President of the Association of Lafayette Feminists Rob Sanchez ‘16 said he “liked how informative the module was and that it was expansive.”

Sanchez said he approved of the many resources that Haven brings to the people’s attention, including the counseling center and Sexual Assault Sexual Harassment advisors.

However, Sanchez believes that the module only serves as only a basis to more discussions and did not have the same impact as would a speaker, because it was only an online experience.

“People could have easily put the program on mute when the videos were playing or just not paid attention to it at all,” Sanchez said.

He said that the program has the potential to “get people to help when they see something wrong, but it’s just the beginning.”

All survey responses taken as a part of Haven are anonymous and will be used to create more effective prevention and education programs.
