Upcoming fall events, student discounts, promotions

Returning to College Hill in the fall does not only excite the students but also the city that lies at the foot of the hill. The relationship between Easton and Lafayette College is one that has strengthened tremendously in the past several years, and as the college welcomes back students with a new school year, so does the city with exciting events, discounts, and promotions.

Easton is in many ways the ideal college town for Lafayette students, providing the college with countless possibilities to explore and experience each day. Every Saturday students can enjoy Easton’s Farmer’s Market, the oldest continuously running open-air market in the United States. Locally grown right in Central Square, the Farmer’s Market has bloomed into a lovely, loud, and large event where one may find delicious smoothies made to your liking, fresh vegetables and fruits, warm goodies from local bakeries, and much more.

On occasion, Easton merges its famous Saturday Market with various festivals celebrating particular foods. Coming up this fall, students can look forward to the return of the stinky yet delicious Garlic Fest on October 4 and 5 as well as the sizzling Bacon Fest on November 8. This year, a new “free street” festival will be coming to town called Clam Jam. This new goodie will be hosted by the up and coming new 3rd & Ferry Fish Market Restaurant and Bar and will celebrate seafood. A short walk farther from the events happening at Center Square, students may immerse themselves in the Riverside Festival of the Arts which will be taking place right along the Delaware and Lehigh rivers on September 20 and 21. Those over twenty one may also bask in the Zombie Pub Crawl happening October 13.

Aside from special downtown events, students are always welcome at the many fine dining establishments in situated downtown. Several student favorites include: the Quadrant Cafe for delicious, homestyle breakfast, Sette Luna for a taste of Italian cooking, Sogo Fusion Lounge for sushi, and Mesa Modern Mexican for a little spice and flavor. Make sure you also check out Big Woody’s Sports Grill, Plum House, Don Juan Mexican Grill, and Cosmic Cup which are located on the hill and all of which take Pard Dollars. Other places such as Cheeburger, Cheeburger offer a 20% off discount while clothing store Easton Outdoor Company treats students to 10% off.

“The merchants and the business owners enjoy the influx of students when they come back to school.” Manager of the Easton Main Street Initiative Kim Kmetz said. “We really enjoy being the home away from home for another incoming class.”
