2013-2014 Highlights
The women’s volleyball came up short after starting off the year with an impressive record of 8-2, with seven of those wins coming in a 3-0 fashion. Despite the team’s losing effort, the ultimate highlight and lowlight of the season came during the dig-pig game against Lehigh. The Leopards took their rivals into a fifth set where they proceeded to lose 15-13.
2014-2015 Outlook
The team is still very young, returning only two seniors and adding five freshmen to the roster. Tori Smith ’18 will have to step in as setter to replace an injured sophomore Samantha Volk to start off the season, a position that she has never played before. Elizabeth Walsh ‘18 will be replacing Karissa Ciliento ‘14 as an outside hitter. The biggest test the team will have to face this season may be at the Seattle University tournament, where they will face Oregon State, Pacific, and Seattle over the course of a two-day road bout. The team will also look to set the pace for the season, opening Patriot League play against Lehigh on September 19.
“Our team dynamic is as strong as it ever has been. Our upperclassmen bring a lot of energy to practice, while the freshman have been eager to learn and are filling in the gaps. Its that kind of teamwork that is going to make us successful this season,” Melanie Weiss ’15 said.
“We were able to come back to College Hill mentally and physically prepared for the season ahead. With the help of Coach Potts and the summer manual he gave our team that included workouts, nutrition information and goals to set for ourselves, we were able to perform to our highest ability on the court and in the weight room when we returned,” Lauren Pisauro ‘16, Brianne Giangiobbe ‘16, and Sarah Moult ‘16 said according to GoLeopards.com.
