Sports Recap Central: 4/17/14

Baseball: (10-19, 3-7)

Saturday: L 6-0 (7) vs. Navy

Navy pitcher Anythony Parenti shutout Lafayette, holding them scoreless in a seven inning, seven strikeout, complete game performance.

Saturday: W 5-4 vs. Navy

After retiring 10 straight Lafayette batters, Navy pitcher Stephen Moore gave up four runs, three earned, in the bottom of the sixth inning. Lafayette held the lead for the rest of the game.

Sunday: L 9-8 (7) vs. Navy

Senior Andrew Santomauro went to 2-5, with a home run, two runs and four RBIs in the loss.

Sunday: W 9-7 vs. Navy

A pair of home runs from sophomore Tyler Hudson and junior Tim Lazor led to four RBIs and three runs.

Wednesday: L 7-1 at Rutgers

 

Softball: (5-27, 3-9)

Saturday: L 7-0 vs. Colgate

Colgate’s Marisa Dowling racked up 5 RBIs in the game. She hit a grand slam in the second inning, along with a single in the seventh.

Saturday: L 5-1 vs. Colgate

While freshman starter Lindsay Cherry gave up five runs on 10 hits, only two were earned. Cherry is 1-8 on the season.

Sunday: W 5-2 vs. Colgate

On senior day, senior Melissa Robinson threw a seven inning, two run game. The only other senior, Amy Gebhardt went 0-2 with a run.

Tuesday: Cancelled at St. Joseph’s

Wednesday: L 7-4 at St. Peter’s

Men’s Lacrosse: (2-10, 1-6)

Friday: 7:00 pm vs. Lehigh

 

Women’s Lacrosse: (6-10, 2-6)

Saturday: L 18-17 vs. Colgate

Despite overcoming a 9-3 deficit in regulation, Lafayette was put away after five leads changes in triple overtime.

 

Track & Field:

Saturday: Rider Invitational

Both men and women’s teams won in the hammer and javelin events. Seniors Rachel Pena, Mac Macguire and Chris Luna all won in their field events. Freshman Jaimie Sheppard had her first collegiate win, launching the Javelin 116’ 0”. On the track, men’s 4 x 100 team consisting of senior David Robinson, sophomores Jarrel Bobb and Mike Smitelli, and freshman Marcus Vilme qualified for the IC4A Championships with a finishing time of 41.74.

 

Men’s Tennis: (4-9, 1-6)

Sunday: L 5-2 vs. Bucknell

Sophomore Brian Pinkard had the only singles win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 in second singles. Lafayette gained a point in doubles winning 2 of the 3 matches.

Monday: L 7-0 vs. Colgate

Despite winning one doubles match, Lafayette was bested in all six singles matches.

 

Women’s Tennis: (5-7, 1-6)

Satuday: W 6-1 vs. Rider

Lafayette won all three doubles matches giving them one point in doubles. They also had 4 of 6 win their singles matches.

Sunday: L 6-1 vs. Bucknell

Lafayette’s lone win came when fifth singles, freshman Tori Almeida, won 6-0 after her opponent retired due to an injury.

Monday: L 7-0 vs. Colgate

Despite winning 3 of the 6 singles matches, Lafayette was defeated in doubles 2-1. The lone doubles win came from sophomores Catherine Senopoulos and Caroline Nixon who defeated their opponents 8-7 (2).

 

Golf

Saturday-Monday: FDU Invitational

Lafayette finished in 13th place anchored by junior Kirk Massie’s seven over 78 top ten finish.
