Weathering the storm

First Game: Marist. Sunday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m.

Last Season: The Lafayette women’s lacrosse team finished 9-9 in the 2013 season and finished third in the Patriot League tournament, losing 9-8 against Navy.

The Leopards finished 3-3 in Patriot League play and went 6-4 at home while just 3-5 on the road. Lost to graduation is Addie Godfrey, who led the team with 52 goals and earned second team all-league honors.

Junior Carlianne McCabe is the only one of the top ten scorers to return from last season with 15 goals. Lafayette totaled 202 goals in 2013 to their opponents’ 218.

Upcoming Season: The upcoming 2014 season sees the loss of eight seniors and the assembly of a much smaller team than the last – 26 players as opposed to 37.

New challenges lay ahead in the new additions of Boston University and Loyola University Maryland to the Patriot League.

“If we focus on playing our game the way we know we can and not psyching ourselves out, I think we can beat both of those teams,” sophomore defender Casey Sullivan said. “I believe if we come out strong this season, we could push ourselves even further than we did last year.”

Player to Watch: Ana White – Senior Midfielder

Preseason MVP: Casey Sullivan – Sophomore Defender

Quotes to Note…

Casey Sullivan – “It is no surprise that we expect great things from Ana White… Last year’s Patriot League midfielder of the year.”

Melissa Galione – “Our motto for this year is redemption.”

Laura Rowan – “Getting into the tournament would be great, winning it is our main goal.”

Head coach Alison Fisher was unavailable to speak at press time
