A Martins Creek man was charged Saturday evening in the hit-and-run of a female student that happened on Friday evening along Lehigh Drive in Easton, according to local police.

Wilson David Kneebone, 49, was accused of driving his Jeep Grand Cherokee down Lehigh Drive near Lafayette’s boathouse when he struck Aubrey Baumbach ‘17, a member of the club crew team. Baumbach was walking back from crew practice with her teammates when Kneebone hit her and did not stop.

Police discerned the make of Kneebone’s car after searching through security footage taken along Lehigh Drive, a report by The Express-Times said. Kneebone was arrested around 5:30 p.m. Saturday night, after detectives approached his home. Kneebone’s Jeep was parked out front, with visible damage on the passenger side light.

“I know why you’re here,” Kneebone said when the detectives knocked on his door.

Kneebone’s license had been suspended in 2012 because of a drunken-driving charge, the fourth he had received since the 1980s. He was also convicted of another hit-and-run in 1997 and of driving without a license in 2009.

Kneebone was arraigned this morning before District Judge Richard Yetter III with a bail of $85,000. He is being charged with aggravated assault by a vehicle, driving with a suspended or revoked license, accident involving injury and accident involving injury while not properly licensed, according to Easton Patch.

He faces a mandatory 60-90 days in jail because of the suspended driving charge, but also faces a maximum of 21 years in prison and $45,000 in fines, said the Express-Times report.

“I’m sorry that it happened and I hope the victim is OK,” Kneebone said.

Baumbach is stable but in critical condition at a medical center in Lehigh County.
