Lafayette-Colgate 1st Half Report

To put it lightly, the Colgate offense was effective in the first half. The Raiders scored on four straight possessions and lead 28-10 at halftime.

Colgate amassed 267 yards of offense, including 172 rushing yards. Quarterback Gavin McCarney ‘14 is 10 of 11 passing for 95 yards and has rushed for 75 yards on eight carries.

Colgate running back Demetrius Russell has rushed for three touchdowns and has carried 12 times for 77 yards for an average of 6.4 yards per carry. The combination of Russell and McCarney has left the Lafayette defense spinning.

Lafayette responded to the opening touchdown drive by Colgate with a 36-yard field goal from kicker Ryan Gralish ‘16. The Leopards scored again with 9:12 remaining in the first half when running back Ross Scheuerman ‘15 scored from two yards out to cut the lead to 21-10.

Freshman quarterback Drew Reed has completed all three of his pass attempts for 60 yards but has been constantly pressured and sacked twice.

Colgate has converted all four of its third down attempts and has controlled the time of possession 20:16 to 9:44.

Lafayette will receive to start the second half.
