To the Lafayette Campus Community:

Since the start of the school year, the Inter-fraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council couldn’t help but notice our organizations being mentioned in various campus publications. Now that other people have had their say about who we are, we wanted to set the record straight.

This fall, the Greek community was pleased to welcome 214 new members with open arms. On Bid Day, 133 smart, involved, active young women found their homes within our six sororities through a mutual selection process. Uniting under the values of scholarship, leadership, service, and sisterhood, these women have now promised to be better than their best and to uphold one another to these high ideals, benefitting the Lafayette community as a whole.

Additionally, over the past six weeks, our four fraternities have also welcomed and initiated 81 new members and have already begun working towards their various philanthropic efforts. With events like DU Spinning, Zete Late-Night, and Café Phi Psi, these men have provided social activities open to the entire campus and have also, in the process, donated proceeds to the DU Global Service Initiative, the Red Cross, Autism Speaks, and the Boys and Girls Club of Easton, respectively.

As a Greek community, we are continuing to plan and sponsor these campus wide events throughout the semester. You can look forward to events such as DU’s assistance with the Homecoming festivities on Anderson Courtyard, Alpha Phi’s “Cardiac Arrest”, where you can bail members of the campus out of “jail” to benefit women’s heart health on October 25th, Pi Beta Phi’s “Dance Marathon”, a campus-wide, 24-hour dance competition promoting literacy on November 15th-16th, and many more.

Our members, new and old, continue to strive for excellence in our community service work within the city of Easton, in our studies, and within our various leadership positions across campus.

While a letter to the editor cannot expose all of the great things that being a part of the sorority and fraternity community does for a person’s life, we hope that this at least is a start. It is important to see that we are more than the rumors and stereotypes that you’ve heard about us, and we hope that you keep an open mind.
