Early lead drifts away

Through the first day of the Bucknell Fall Invitational Tournament, the Lafayette golf team seemed well on its way to victory.

Led by junior Phil Rosengarden’s 69 on the par-70 Bucknell Golf Club, Lafayette led by one stroke after the first round. Rosengarden’s round was highlighted by his first career hole-in-one.

“I never had one before so it was a pretty ridiculous feeling,” Rosengarden said.

Day two was a much different story as the Leopards finished seventh and ultimately finished the tournament seventh out of ten.

“It’s a short golf course but not extremely difficult,” said sophomore Travis Ricca. “[There are] a lot of very difficult putts where you don’t want to leave yourself past the hole.”

Ricca, along with Kirk Massie, Garrett Sweeney, and Matt Kramer competed individually at the tournament.

Freshman Jared Mactas put up a first round 74 for the second straight tournament and is now Lafayette’s low scorer in both tournaments this season. Mactas finished first at the Colgate Invitational earlier this season.

Chad Bell ‘16 started the tournament with a 72 and 74, finishing with an 82 on the third day. Senior Josh Feinberg went 78-78-77 for the tournament finishing tied for 32nd overall and Ben DeForest ‘16 went 81-77-82 to finish tied for 42nd.

Next up for Lafayette is the Cornell University Invitational this weekend in Ithaca, NY.
